Cheap but effective SEO strategy is possible. SEO strategy to improve your ranking must be a habit already for your digital marketing team. Improving your ranking in SEO is not an overnight wonder or a one-time deal. It is something that digital marketing teams must do consistently if they want good conversions and profits coming in regularly as well. This article aims to give you a simple 5-step plan on how to do SEO and increase your Google ranking cheaply yet effectively.

Consistency is critical in SEO because trends change, and they do change often. Search engine algorithm factors also change as trends come and go. There is a high demand for SEO techniques to adapt quickly to these changes, but if you and your team are always at the edge of your seats when it comes to SEO, you will be able to adjust strategies as quickly as you need to without much strain.

Google is still the frontrunners among search engines, as it remains as the formidable people’s choice their search inquiry needs. Google is the pop icon for search engines, without a doubt, with 87.35 % market share compared to other search engines.

87.35 % Market Share

Whether you want to learn about a specific topic, or you are looking for a product or service, Google tops the list for their choice. Most online searches still go through them. People go to Google to research products before buying them. Even investors go to Google to investigate the solution that they are looking into before investing.

As we are trying to get our website on the top of the search engine’s list for our niche, there are a few things that we all need to remember, whether we are an expert or not. These tips can boost your strategy.

  1. Publish Content That People Search For (Search Intent)
People search through Google and other search engines to look for content. The importance of content is the basis for the existence of search engines. It affects the movement of rankings in the search result page. If you are producing content that people are typing in the search bar or are relevant to people’s search intent, then you are more likely to rank on SERP.

If people do not need your topic, they will most likely not search for it. That content may be beautifully written, but sadly, it will not rank high because it’s not meeting a need or aiming to solve a current problem that people are finding solutions to resolve.

It is time to be customer-centric from the moment you start brainstorming for content the time you produce it.

For instance, people may not care much right now about corporate attire because most of them are working from home. Unemployment is at a record-high even in first-world countries due to the global pandemic we are all facing. If you produce content right now about “corporate power-dressing,” it may not rank because that is not a current, urgent need.

But if you are customer-centric, you will produce content that can help them cope through this time. A lot of them are shifting to remote work for the first time, so maybe produce content on “how to make video resumes to stand out” from tons of applicants. You can also make content that discusses the benefits of remote working and pitfalls to avoid or watch out for, like “how to fight loneliness while working remotely.”

You can use various web tools like Google Keyword Planner to discover keywords and key phrases that are trending and come up with content in response to that. This way, you are sure to add value to your target market, that will be seen through proofs like increase in traffic, engagements, ranking, and conversions.

  2. Be Mindful of Your Keywords and Key Phrases (Keyword Optimisation)
There is no excuse for poorly written, low-quality content. If you are producing these kinds of content, Google takes notice, and your web page gets lesser priority in the ranking, or worse, get penalised if you violate its standards. Gone are the days when you can do keyword stuffing and other strategies that are not considered by Google as spammy.

Aim to produce high-quality content that has trending keywords and key phrases created for your target market. It will increase your site traffic, which improves your website’s domain authority and relevance.

Effective SEO strategy does not have to be paid all the time. Digital marketing teams need only to be resourceful and optimise free tools on the web for what they need.

You can get much insight from the search bar of Google itself. It is absolutely free. You can start by writing down what you want to write on and see the top search results. Check how these pages are doing on Keyword Planner, so you get an insight into much traffic the content is getting. You can also download Chrome extensions like Keywords Everywhere or What’s My SERP so as you search for topics, you will also see other trending keywords and key phrases (exact words or by search intent).

    Multiple Keyword Phrases

Topics can easily cross-over to multiple keywords, and it takes careful strategy to optimise your content for multiple keyword phrases within a similar scope or theme. You may be talking about “safety tips for kids using the internet”, but because this also involves teaching kids how to become responsible digital citizens, you can brush up a bit on “bad social media etiquette.” But if the keyword phrases are unrelated, it will look spammy if you try to fit them into a single content. It is better then, to create separate web pages for each targeted keyword phrase, so your content retains its authenticity, authority, and clarity.

    Use Keywords Strategically

You need to determine what would be your content’s main keyword and secondary keywords or key phrases. You need to use the main keywords seamlessly into your URL, page title, your headings (H1, H2, H3…). Place it on your content body naturally, and do not forget to include them in your alt tags and meta descriptions as well.

Your content must be natural and user-friendly, readable, and usable to your audience. If you are using images or videos, produce high-quality imagery that can make an impact even on first glance (for images) and in the first 10 seconds (for videos). Do not forget to label your images and videos, too, including one or two main keywords. It will be a bonus if your video has video captions available as well. It is another avenue to insert place keywords and key phrases to increase the quality of your content even further.

Content has a significant impact on SERP rankings, so use your keyword phrase numerously throughout your content. Use it once or twice in the introduction and conclusion, and around two to four times more throughout the body. Use bold, italics, heading tags (especially an H1), and other formatting styles to highlight these keyword phrases without overdoing it. Writing style must remain seamless or natural. Remember, you are making content for real people, not search engines.

  3. Improve your website’s user experienceWhat improves a website users experience? According to SEMrush’ study on ranking factors, they are website visits, dwell time on site, pages browsed per session, and bounce rate. Except for the fourth one, the higher the rate, the more satisfied a user is on the content. A reader will not visit your site again and again if they do not like it. They will not spend time on it if it does not give them any value. They will not be compelled to open other pages you linked from your article. Google takes note of these factors and judges that if you get high values on these areas, then you have high-quality content.

Bounce rate, on the other hand, needs to remain low. Bounce rate is the time that the reader exits your site the moment they enter or read your content. If you keep getting high bounce rates, Google interprets this poorly on your part—that your content may not be valuable, engaging, or safe for the users.

  4. Publish High Quality, Long-Form Content
The average number of words of a high-quality content that lands first on SERP is around 2,416 words, 20% higher than the average length of the rest on the top 10, which is about 2,000 words.

If your article falls below that, Google will not prioritise your web page as high-quality content. So, it is better to produce content on long-form, even if you can only publish articles or content once a week, rather than create several low-quality contents. The former will have a greater impact because it is going to matter more to people, which matters to Google.

If you want to see, your web pages rank on search engines and get high traffic, create in-depth, informative, and engaging content that answers the audience’s most pressing needs or questions, without sacrificing quality.

  5. Backlinks MatterBacklinks are important because the more you have of those quality and reliable backlinks, the more Google sees your content as trustworthy. Inbound links, on the other hand, lead your readers into other parts of your website with related information that may also be valuable for them.

With inbound links, you are giving your readers the extra service of ease in navigating through your site.

Focus on creating relevant links in your content. Naturally use anchor text and select keywords that have a strong potential to improve search rankings not just to your page, but also the site you are linking to. Readers are the ones who get the most benefit because they get served a buffet of reliable information not just through your website but other relevantly useful sites as well.

Conclusion: A Good SEO Strategy Can be Cheap Yet Effective

The tips given here are things you can do for free. An excellent SEO Strategy does not have to break your bank account just to be a success. SEO is a strategy that will decrease your reliance on paid advertisements and marketing methods by building your audience, your authority, and your authenticity as a brand or website.

These are long-term factors that will continue to benefit your brand, not just for the time being. Aim to improve your ranking not just because you want to get rich, get famous quick. Trust-worthy sites know that they did not get to where they are on a whim or by chance. SEO strategy consistently and efficiently done, again and again, is the key to not just improve but sustain your SEO ranking.
