Every year, the world of web design sees a new set of trends rise and influence the way web designers do their work. While some of these trends go the way of most other trends—they don’t last long—some web design trends of the past few years are still with us, like the growing use of more whitespace as well as chatbots.

The following web design trends that are predicted to make a splash in 2020 are also bound to meet the same fate. Some of them will fizzle out, and some will continue to be in use for years to come. Let’s take a look at some of the web design trends that will make quite an impact in 2020.

Mobile-first web design

Ever since the number of mobile users overtook that of desktop users in 2016, mobile has never looked back. More and more people are surfing the Internet using their mobile devices, and the gap between mobile and desktop has been widening steadily.

However, even though mobile users have been lording it over desktop users over the last few years, most web designers still approached their work with desktop in mind. For the longest time, web designers typically sketched and prototyped their work on desktop first, then worked on smaller screens later.

However, the rise of mobile-first web design is going to turn mobile-friendly web design on its head and will be very big in 2020. With mobile-first web design, web designers will instead kick off the designing process by working on small screens first before working their way up to bigger screens.

This reversal means web designers will make content a priority, considering the size of the screens they’re working on first. They’ll reserve the inessential parts of a website for the bigger screens, and put up nothing but the all-important content at the beginning. The result, of course, is faster delivery of content to mobile users, with all the extraneous elements out of the way.

Big, bold typography

Another web design trend that’s going to be big in 2020 is the use of big, bold letters, especially on home pages. It’s great for getting the attention of visitors and making them remember your brand, especially with the way they seem to pop out of the screen the moment they access the page.

Micro animations

Would you want visitors to your website to interact with the products your business is selling online? If so, you might want to try micro animations, which are going to be big in 2020. If you’re selling clothing, for example, micro animation can help prospective customers see what they’d look like wearing your offerings.

Dynamic landing pages

Your business can surely use a good static landing page with impressive graphics, well-written content, and a compelling CTA. But if you want it to be more engaging, you might want to try featuring dynamic landing pages, one of the web design trends expected to become more prevalent in 2020. When your landing page has web animation and other interactive elements, it will become more engaging, which can result in more leads and conversions for your business.

Full-screen forms

The signup form on your website is most crucial to your business’ lead generation efforts, but not too many people like filling in forms. However, getting with the upcoming web design trend of full-screen forms just may change your visitors’ minds. With full-screen forms, fields and text are bigger, making them more appealing and easier to fill in.

These are just a few of the web design trends that are going to make a splash in 2020. While there isn’t any assurance that they will 100% do wonders for your business, it wouldn’t hurt to give any of them a try. Who knows, the trend you choose to adopt just might help your business grow some more.
